Lachy spent two years undertaking post graduate studies in Podiatric Medicine/Surgery at The University of Western Australia where he had the opportunity to observe, assist and perform hundreds of surgical procedures in the foot and ankle under specialties including podiatric surgery, orthopaedic surgery, vascular surgery and dermatology (skin cancer). Other education during this time included advanced education in anaesthetics, orthopaedics, infectious diseases, radiology, musculoskeletal medicine, dermatology, pharmacotherapy, biostatistics and epidemiology. Hospital/private clinic medical rotations were also undertaken with dermatology, infectious diseases, endocrinology and pharmacy. These experiences allowed Lachy to complete the requirements for endorsement to prescribe scheduled medicines, which allows him to prescribe a range of medicines including antibiotics, analgesics/anti-inflammatories, anxiolytics and anaesthetics. He also completed certification in advanced life support, medical laser safety and medical radiation for fluoroscopy during this time. During this time Lachy was awarded the Medical Developments International Prize in Advanced Podiatric Medicine for exceptional performance in his post graduate studies.
